Output: 09 is much more than a regular yearbook. It is a radar for future development in design • both formally and conceptionally. : output presents the projects themselves as well as assignments, methods and processes. Promoting the idea of "design thinking", it fosters the development of projects with a social, ecological, political or cultural relevance.

output is the largest and most important international competition for students from all fields of visual communications. The documentation presents the most inspiring, most interesting and most extraordinary works being generated around the world at design academies.
It shows the best 74 of roughly 900 submissions from 27 different countries. :output not only offers an outstanding look at and over what's happening at the schools, but also about what's moving a generation and in what stylistic variety it's happening.

For students, :output has become established as the Olympics of graphic design. It leads professionals with staff responsibility to the talent-makers and their high potentials. And for creative people in agencies • who have far less freedom than the students • :output is inspiration and forever young!

The book :output has been nominated for the German Design Award, the international iF Design Award and the "Nederlandse Designprijzen".
The Type Directors Club New York gave an "award for typographic excellence" for the book.
