Samenvatting

This is a book about people and how they function in organizations. It is about how we have constructed 'things' that no longer leave room for open communication, true humanity and beauty. People are literally lost in organizations.
We learned to think in cause and effect when we construct our day to day business in organizations. This book offers a perspective in which cause and effect thinking no longer rules, making room for different approaches. It offers a complete new perspective, which has not been applied to organizational thinking so far.
How people get lost in organizations is for readers who want to gain a thorough insight into the processes of alienation between organizations and individuals, and for those who want to learn about possible solutions on a personal level, or on the level of organizations and society. It helps to understand how we construct our own cave without seeing the way out any more.
Martijn van Oorschot is artist and anthropologist. Michiel Hogerhuis is social scientist and philosopher. For the past 15 years they have worked as management consultants in a wide variety of organizations. Both teach 'Interventions' at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. Together they wrote seven Dutch books on Management, Art, Architecture and Philosophy.
